By Haley Mazgaj amp Ryan Bednasz GROWING CORN BEANS AND SQAUSH The longhouse villagers found much of their food in nature but they also grew crops such as sunflowers and melons The basic crops they grew corn squash and beans were known as the Three Sisters the name Sisters also refers to the spirits of these plants The women planted the three vegetables together in rows so the beans stalks would wind around the corn stalks for support Squashes grew between these stalks to shade the ground keeping it moist and to stop the weeds from growing.
