The Vietnam War marked the first time that the US military brought together trained snipers custom rifles telescopic sights special ammunition and noise suppressors and employed them successfully in a combat environment This work focuses on a small but significant aspect of modern military history the army sniper program the circumstances behind the fielding of the XM21 sniper rifle and Adjustable Ranging Telescope developed for use in Vietnam and the combat application of sound suppression devices for rifles and special carbines. 1960 -. John F. Kennedy is elected president. 1963 -. Johnson becomes president & almost 16,00 U.S. Troops in Vietnam. 1964 -. Johnson elected president. 1957-. Vietcong began attacks on Diem Government. 1965-1975. America’s Involvement in Vietnam. 30 years of involvement. Not pointing fingers but our former president was one of them. There has been many wars in which the United States had fought. Both defeat and triumph was faced. Several different reasons led the United States to enter these wars. Some of these causes were fears and threats. Just like Vietnam war which was fought to stop communism from spreading into rest of Asia. Similarly, the latest Iraq war is being fought because of fear of further terrorist attacks and to stop the spread of terrorism in the whole world.
